This is what I know is passion.
My passion is to create. To create anything, web designs, knitted sweaters, tiny flags of the state of Ohio to hand out to my fifth grade class for my epic state project and to empower others to create too.
What is your passion?
I don't have to do what they say.
Recently, I had this scary ephiphany about my parents.
Some of y'alls tumblogs are so amazing...
… but I can’t look at them at work. So I unfollow 9-5 and refollow 5-9 and weekends. Nothing but hearts.
In which I take the internets too seriously.

Perhaps you remember my statement on blackness...
blackisbeautiful:
“What is blackness? Blackness is not a color. It’s consciousness. It’s a state of being. It’s an awareness a social and political movement. Get over yourself now because this shit is not about light and dark, good hair or bad. It’s about fighting for something together. You need to be aware of how people look at you, what they think of you and then you need to use that to your...
Using drugs didn’t destroy Obama’s life; going to prison would have.
– The Trunk
Jeff and I disagree on a lot of things—but he’s absolutely right on this point.
Our War on Drugs is a disaster and we need to seriously reevaluate it. Sure, “pot smokers” is a not particularly sympathetic interest group—but the War on Drugs has a lot of victims who aren’t drug users.

How to DO THINGS
versus “getting things done”
Remember high school science class? When the nerdy teacher with the weird dude-fro told you that little tiny atoms made up everything? And you were all, no way, and she (or he) was all, totally way? And then she proceeded to predict the science behind this Fringe episode?
Everything is made up of smaller things. Every. Thing. Everyone knows this -...
To the brown girl sitting in any college class...
You belong. Your blood, sweat, tears, femininity, history, your story, your mama’s story, your daddy’s story belong here. The struggles of your families that you never read in your history books demand you belong there. Whether you got there by plane, a train, a car or even if you walked your butt to that college or university classroom.
YOU BELONG.

I would love to call folks out on it like this.
So hard.
nucca:
It’s so hard going through college when your parents haven’t done it themselves. I want to ask them for advice on what to do because they were the go to people when I was younger. Now I don’t know who to ask because I don’t know anyone close to me who has ever finished college.
I’ll pull through.
Ask me. I did it as the first born of my generation to go to school in the US....

This is *almost* what I’d like to see in the image markets. From the site:
This is Hispanic culture now: a diverse cultural and socioeconomic presence. From business to romance to family, the themes are universal. From hard-working professionals to stylish young people to loving families, the personalities are contemporary. Somos royalty-free images capture the chispa, the spark, of...

Sourcing
How important is it, especially on tumblr where errbody and they mamas reblog like mofolokos?
Do you add the source of your images? (the other post types have sourcing built-in)
It’s important to me for images to have at least someway of finding who created it. This stems from my deep belief in the power of creating, and the need for people to be recognized for what they created, no matter...
Breaking: Gov’t Buyout, AIG, & Obama’s “Brand... →
“When Obama first made the gesture, it split the world into three camps: people who thought he actually had dirt on his shoulder (maybe three people or less worldwide); people who got the intent of the gesture (back up off this; you don’t matter); and people who got the specific reference to hip hop and the 2003 hit by Jay Z.
“The use of hip hop signifiers and metaphors, as well as...
